The current state of Rakvere’s St. Paul’s Church and Vabaduse Square has undisputed
qualities, which above all are the architectural value and good general condition of Alar
Kotli’s former church building as well as the wideness and noblesse of the surrounding
urban space “free of associations with work and money” (Mart Kalm).

Rather than reducing the overwhelming impact of the present urban scenery to a
`human` scale, which might correspond to the surrounding architecture, we suggest to
extend the symbolic power of the present architecture in order to fit the urban scale.
