The new annex was designed as a single piece comprised of three main parts: a) circulation lobby – seating
areas, b) stage and c) back stage – utilities. In between the old and the new building a space is reserved as
part of the public square flowing around the church. By means of this in-between gap a juxtaposition of
concepts are made evident. On one side an old, heavy, masculine stone building, on the other side a light,
transparent and feminine new building, each representing the time and society that produced them. In order
to accentuate the differences the new annex is covered by an sensuous undulating roof that makes the
piece more horizontal, in contrast to the two vertical towers of the old church.
